Today’s 2014/2015 Love Fisher Brown award entrant to be profiled is Scarborough IBC. The club has over 20 people per week with a visual or hearing impairment using their facility on a regular basis. Many of these participants attend their ‘Bowls and Buggies’ session every Saturday morning. These are run with the range of adaptive equipment the club have available and, by dedicated qualified coaches.
There is also a visually impaired bowls festival week held annually and this attracts guests from all over the country.
The club are committed to making the venue as inclusive and accessible as possible and the next stage of development is to install automatic doors. It is also important to the members to make the social elements of the sport available to the participants to create a community feel.
All of this is made possible by the support from the club coaches which include, Unsung Hero award nominee Jean Jarvis and her colleagues.
