Gedling Open Pairs 2018

Joan Blaney Memorial Trophy

The Gedling Open Pairs 2018, a weekend long competition for people with physical and sensory disabilities, brought together 36 players, including 10 Internationals, from England, Wales and Scotland.

Played on a round robin basis, with three groups of six, each group winning pair and the best runner up across the groups progressed to the semi-final and final.  The groups were won by Billy Alan and Glen Livingston; Gary Swift and John Rogers; Babs and Kevin Woolmer, best runners up Bob Love partnered by Helen Wood.

Gary and John scrapped through on the last end 9-8, much to Billy’s consternation skip Glen promoted John’s wood to give the game away.  Bob and Helen took an early lead against Babs and Kevin taking them through to the final by 12 – 9.

In the final early exchanges saw the lead swap 2 or 3 times before Bob and Helen picked up 4 shots and from then on Gary and John couldn’t regain the lead, eventually handing the title to Bob and Helen 12 – 8.
