It’s always a great feeling when your work is appreciated to see a plan come together, after the past 12 months travelling around England with our Taster and Disability awareness days ends of a massive high with our final event of 10 at York & District IBC & New Earswick IBC with our biggest turnout of over 50 DBE members over the 2 day event, showcasing our skills on and off the green was totally amazing and just shows how far disability bowls has come since the return after the pandemic.
Our membership has grown with over 150 new members joining DBE, we have introduced 3 new approved wheelchairs, the DHB hacksaw bowling arm and various other piece of equipment to many clubs and counties members, officials, club coaches, volunteers and finally have seen the growth of many clubs opening their friendly doors to disability groups with open events and competitions.
Unfortunately, our funding assistance from Sport England and Wheelpower has come to an end and our latest request for assistance has been rejected which means no more Taster Days have been planned for 2023.
We have launched a crowdfunding page to try and raise much needed funds for us to continue to do this great work across all 35 countries in England, www.crowdfunder.co.uk every penny raised goes into ensuring everyone can enjoy the sport of bowls with likeminded people in a friendly and safe environment.
A massive thank-you must go out to the DBE volunteer’s workforce, Judy Plater, Sue Davies, Nigel Morgan supported by DBE ambassador, helpers, members and the host clubs without you giving up your free time to make this happen the game of bowls for disabled people would have not move forward as fast as it has, the future looks much brighter for the Bowls Family in the local community across England
Thank You everyone.
