DISABILITY BOWLS ENGLAND STATEMENT | COVID-19 return to bowls

Disability Bowls England advises members who are able and wishing to resume playing bowls to read and comply with the guidance issued by Bowls England on 14th May 2020.

The Guidance can be viewed at: www.bowlsengland.com/covid-19-supplementary-guidance-for-lawn-bowls-clubs/

In accordance with the Government guidelines, issued on 13th May, it states: “You can play lawn bowls where facilities have reopened, but you can only take part in these activities by yourself, or with members of your household or with one person outside of your household, as long as you are able to maintain social distancing.”

DBE wishes to remind members that they should establish and follow specific rules introduced at the respective Club.

The following playing formats are in accordance with Government guidelines:

• Individuals playing bowls on their own on a single rink

• Two individuals from two different households playing on a single rink (no marker)

• Members of the same household on a single rink (no marker unless from same household)

Social distancing rules must be strictly adhered to; you must remain at least two metres apart from other bowlers (who are not part of your household) at all times.

Players who require additional help from a person who cannot maintain the two metre distance, such as a wheelchair pusher, visually impaired or blind helper/director, personal carer or coach, must note that this assistance is to be provided by a member of their own household.

Disability aids and wheelchairs must be sanitised before and after each session. If club equipment is to be used, prior permission along with instructions for use must be obtained.

Any changes to the guidance will be published on www.disabilitybowlsengland.org.uk and www.bowlsengland.com

If you have any questions, please email info@disabilitybowlsengland.org.uk

These are difficult times and although members will be keen to get back onto the green, please take care, stay alert and stay well.
